Is the year 1986, in Tennessee, the father of 2 boys Lester and Duff Daniels is killed by a snake in a strange ceremony with Pentecostal snake handlers . Leap forward 20 years later, now Duff is a collector of snakes while Lester lives in a deathly fear of them.

While in a visit to the Kitawa Indian Screaming Hawk to buy snakes Duff sees a small snake in a jar. When he decides to buy it Screaming Hawk tells that him that isn't for sale explaining that it's the dangerous Unteka and there are 3 rules to raise it:

1 - Never let the snake out of the jar
2 - Never let it eat living animals
3 - Never fear the heart of the snake.

Duff steals the Unteka snake anyway, and brings it home, however he accidentally drops the jar and the snake gets loose and eats his cat. As the snake gets bigger and bigger it starts eating everything in its path animals or the locals. Now is up to Les together with his ex-girlfriend Erin and Screaming Hawk to try and stop the Unteka snake and save the local population.
