The year is 1979 in a storm on a lonely California highway, a delivery truck is bound for the San Diego Zoo with a deadly rare breed of rattlesnake, naturally a more ferocious one, as cargo. When one of the truck's tires suffers a blowout, the driver loses control hitting a tree and shattering the snake's enclosure in the back. The loose snake slithers into the front of the truck killing the 2 occupants. It and then moves off into the forest making a disused mine shaft its new home.
Now the year is 1999 and the once small southern California town of San Vicente has grown from 6,000 to 30,000 people. And in the woods the rattlesnake, that escaped the truck years ago, has also been breeding regular rattlesnakes. Now there are 25,000 of these hybrid rattlesnakes, and they are slowly making their way into the growing town, attracted by the movement and blasting for housing development towards progress, but progress, in this case, also brings terror.
