In 1890 in England a brilliant scientist in order to try and cure his wife's mental illness, injects her with some snake venom, keeping the disease under control.
Then she dies giving birth to a daughter, but the villagers begin to call her "The Devil's Baby", a local witch claims that the child is pure evil and therefore must be destroyed. They soon burn the family's house down, and the scientist is killed by an angry mob. However the baby girl is saved with the help of an understanding local doctor. 19 years later a Scotland Yard detective is sent to the village to investigate a stream of deaths that are caused by snakebites. The fearful villagers believe that the curse of the snake woman has struck, but the young Scotland Yard inspector is somewhat skeptical of the supernatural theory, as he begins his investigation.
